The Oklahoman reported that a plane flew just 500 feet above a school building but quickly regained its altitude.
A Southwest Airlines plane from Las Vegas made a sudden dive and flew just 500 feet over buildings before landing safely in Oklahoma City, reported local media. The Boeing 737-800 was cleared to land at Will Rogers Airport after midnight on Wednesday, but its steep descent triggered a low altitude alert from Air Traffic Control.
“Southwest 4069, low altitude alert. You good out there?” the ATC warned.
The plane briefly flew 500 feet over a school building before regaining altitude and landing safely on another runway, according to The Oklahoman. Local residents expressed their alarm on social media, with one saying, “It woke me up and I thought it was gonna hit my house.”
Southwest Airlines stated that they are working with US aviation authorities to investigate any issues with the plane’s approach, emphasizing their commitment to safety.
